Complications of filling the fuel tank completely
Why not fill the fuel tank completely?
As mentioned above, there are many reasons why the fuel tank should not be completely filled. The reasons are as follows:
Damage to the canister system
Most cars are now equipped with canister filters. The filter is filled with carbon and continuously monitors gasoline vapor to return gasoline vapor to the vehicle’s fuel cycle and burn it in the combustion process.
This will prevent the gasoline vapor from escaping and the risk of fire will be eliminated. When we insist on filling the tank too much, we actually damage the canister filter. The filter in question is relatively expensive, and replacing it can cost us extra.
Why not fill the fuel tank completely
When refueling the car, the gas pump nozzle detects the appropriate amount of gasoline, after filling the car tank, with a click and automatically shuts off the gas flow. In fact, this is done to increase the safety and protection of an important part of the car called the “canister”, which most people are not aware of the existence of this part and its importance in the car fuel system.
Due to its chemical nature, gasoline produces an amount of vapor that can accumulate excessively in the fuel tank. In today’s cars, there is a suitable solution for controlling gasoline vapors, this solution is nothing but using a gasoline vapor filter, ie a canister part.
A canister is a part that is filled with activated carbon and constantly controls the gasoline vapor and returns it to the fuel path. Liquid gasoline has a destructive effect on the canister. This destructive effect is such that after a while it can damage the canister and force you to replace this part. You usually have to pay a lot of money for this. Proper canister performance, in addition to optimizing fuel consumption and reducing air pollution, also affects vehicle safety. Of course, you can prevent this part from being damaged to some extent, provided that you observe the following:
Too much gas in the tank will spill gas on the floor
Pouring gasoline on the ground
Due to not taking the cut-off warning seriously, we may insist on refueling more while refueling the car, in which case it will be possible to spray gasoline out of the tank and onto the ground. This happens when we take it out of the tank a little to avoid cutting the nozzle so that it does not cut off the flow of gasoline, thus spraying gasoline on the ground.
Now that gasoline is a highly volatile substance, its vapor ignites in the air and explodes violently due to the octane in the gasoline. Such a thing causes human and financial losses and can lead to a large fire. This can be the most important cause of car fire at gas stations, which can be prevented with a little care.
Pouring gasoline on the car body
If you do not pay the necessary attention to refueling and try to fill the car tank and insist on this due to the disconnection of the pump nozzle, you will cause gas to spill from the tank opening to the car body. If you have noticed a large number of cars in the part of the body where the tank door is installed, there are color differences that this damage is caused by spilling gasoline on the car body.
Gasoline tank explosion
This is more the case with older cars, which released gasoline vapor from the tank during the refueling process, causing irreparable damage to the environment. Gasoline vapor, a volatile substance, could also have exploded in the tank and in the car. Fortunately, this issue has been addressed in production cars years ago, and with the addition of canister filters, gasoline vapor emissions and the risk of tank explosion have been greatly reduced.
Reason for not filling the fuel tank too much
In light of the above, we recommend that you never try to overfill your car, as this may cause problems for your car.
Next, we must say that if your car tank is empty, do not drive because there is a device in the car fuel tank called a fuel pump that sends gasoline from the tank to the engine. One of the ways that the fuel pump stays cool and has a psychological function is that it is immersed in gasoline. In fact, it uses gasoline to stay cool and fluid.
